I am sure you’ve heard of people being ‘Shadow Banned on Instagram‘? What is it and how do you avoid being shadowbanned on Instagram?
Whilst the term ‘Shadowban’ isn’t actually an official term, you will hear lots of chatter in various groups and forums on the subject.
What is Instagram ShadowBan
An Instagram shadowban refers to the act of hiding or restricting a user’s content without informing the user that it’s happening.
Typically this occurs when a user has violated Instagram’s community guidelines and their content is otherwise deemed inappropriate or has used Hashtags that are banned.
If you’re shadowbanned, your content won’t appear on anyone’s feed, Explore, or hashtag pages unless they already follow you.

Banned hashtags are ones that have been reported to Instagram as well as going against their Community Guildlines.

Your Engagement has Dropped. You will probably notice that your posts aren’t doing as well as they once were, in terms of Likes Comments, and Reach.
You’ve not had new followers in a while! if you were once getting a steady flow of followers and all of a sudden they have tailed off or worse stopped. This can be another indicator that your account has been restricted.
How to check if you have a Shadowban
One way to check if you’ve got a Shadowbanned on Instagram is to post an image with one of the unpopular Hashtags.
Ask someone to search the hashtag and look for your image… If the image isn’t found, your account is probably shadowbanned.

- Post from your phone rather than a marketing platform where you can automate the post
- Once you post, spend time engaging with other accounts
- Report your Shadowban to Instagram
