The Importance of a Stunning Website to Match Your Instagram

Discover the importance of a stunning website that matches your Instagram is essential for attracting clients and boosting your online presence.

** Long Post but worth your time **

I have some major news from the Instagram world today.

First, a quick question: if your website and Instagram grid went head-to-head, who would come out on top?

I’m guessing it’s Instagram. Many people tell me, “I get all my clients from Instagram!”

Which is usually followed by, “Don’t look at my website. I haven’t updated it in ages. It’s terrible. I hate it.”

And then, “You should check out my Instagram instead.”

☕ If this sounds like you, grab a coffee. I’ve got something important to share.

First, check out this message I received on Instagram this morning ????

???? Oh NO! What happens when someone likes your work but can’t message you because you’re not following them?

???? They’ll click the link in your bio and go straight to your website.

Yes, that website you’re not thrilled about…

I get why Instagram is doing this—they want to cut down on spam, protect privacy, and reduce harassment. Smart move.

But this means that the ‘sale’—that crucial moment when someone decides to hire you—won’t happen while they’re browsing your beautiful Instagram feed and sending a quick DM.

Instead, they’ll head straight to your contact form, and while they’re there, they’ll probably check out your portfolio.

If they don’t like what they see, they might change their mind about reaching out. Not good. ????

So, let’s focus on that buying moment.

???? Imagine this scenario.

A couple sits down on a Sunday to make their final decision on which wedding photographer to choose.

They’ve narrowed it down to two or three photographers, and you’re one of them (congrats!).

One partner has done the research and is now presenting you to their other half. The first thing they’ll look for is your portfolio gallery.

Your ‘best of the best’ images.

I know, it’s cringe-worthy to think about people directly comparing our portfolios with others.

But they do. They really do.

And if you don’t have a standout portfolio because you’re relying on blog posts or your portfolio isn’t up-to-date, they’re unlikely to go back to Instagram to make that final decision.

Or think about this:

???? A potential client finds your Instagram and loves what you offer. They try to message you but can’t, so they go to the link in your bio. If your website doesn’t match the fantastic Instagram feed, they might think they’re in the wrong place and decide to find someone else who offers the same thing.

???? Obviously, I’m going to suggest you invest in a website glow-up. But that’s my job.

If you don’t have time for that right now, my summer tip is to make sure you have a swoon-worthy portfolio ready to do the selling for you.

My templates along with my stunning Cloud library of layouts and blocks exist to make photographers look AMAZING, instead of letting Instagram take all the glory.

(Don’t worry, Instagram will still be a fantastic marketing tool.)

But when they hit your website, ready to make that final decision, you want YOUR stunning website to be the star.

So are you ready to have your website match your Instagram profile?
