Why you need a blogging strategy

In this post, I am going to look at ‘Why you need a Blogging Strategy’ and the benefits of blogging on a regular basis… If you’ve been putting off blogging because it’s just another thing to do then it’s time to dust up on those writing skills as the benefits of regular blogging far outweigh not doing it.

So why is blogging beneficial to your business?

Helps build your Brand

One of the key benefits of blogging on a regular basis is that it helps you build your Brand online and gives you more authority in your industry so that you become the ‘Go to Business’ in your niche.

By writing regular blog content you will soon become recognisable in your community as the authority in your specialist area.

When someone is looking for something specific you will be the blogger that everyone goes to for knowledge and advice.

Google Loves Fresh Content

You’ve probably heard this many times before but here it goes again ‘Google LOVES fresh content’ so by blogging regularly you will keep the content on your website fresh and up to date, which keeps Google happy, which in turn will improve your SEO.

Helps you connect with your ideal client

Blogging is a great way of talking to your ideal client. So remember to let your personality shine through, so that they know there is a real person behind the text! You need to engage with the audience to keep them coming back for more. So write like a human and not a robot and don’t use too much technical jargon.

So why do I need a Blogging Strategy?

Having a Blogging strategy it will help you focus on your ideal client and getting your posts in front of them. For a Wedding Photographer your strategy could be to book more of your ideal clients at a specific wedding venue or in a specific location.

Let’s say you want to concentrate on weddings within your location, by becoming an expert on all the good venues, the suppliers, etc and blogging them you will become the expert on that venue. Also, you will find that venues and suppliers will want to share your content.

If you feature a variety of weddings at that specific venue in different seasons you will be able to show you have knowledge of working at that venue no matter the time of year.

So what should you blog about?

What you blog about will depend on your niche, but fundamentally your blog should do the following; Inspire, Educate, and Informational

So let’s say you’re a Wedding Photographer, then you would probably have a strategy that looks something like this…

  • INSPIRE WITH PAST WEDDINGS – Don’t make the mistake of making it all about the couple! I know you loved Tom and Alice’s wedding, and so did their family, but your audience is interested in what it’s like to get married at that specific venue. So write your title around weddings at that venue and NOT the couple’s name.
  • EDUCATE WITH GROUP PHOTOS – Every wedding couple will tell you they don’t want GROUP PHOTOS until you don’t take them and then it’s a major issue because you missed them! That’s why I always had a list of 10 to 12 MUST HAVE photos. So write a post on Why they should have immediate family and wedding party group photos.
  • INFORMATIONAL – TOP TIPS ON WHAT TO WEAR FOR AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT – If you offer engagement shoots, why not write a post on what to wear for an engagement shoot, the benefits of doing it sooner rather than later, or maybe after the bride-to-be has had her hair and makeup trial so she can see how AWESOME she looks with that new updo!
