HOW WE WORK + WORKING TOGETHER

Before we can begin, there are a few things that I’ll need from you to get started. Once I get started, I work very fast so it’s essential that everything reaches me at least two days before I am scheduled to start.

Once you’ve accepted your quote, I’ll send you three questionnaires via 17 Hats and a Dropbox link. This is where we’ll share all of our work.

Designing a website can be complex, so to help you get to grips with what we’ll be doing, take a look at the below…

01. LAYOUT & DESIGN

A large part of the design process is in the planning and layout stage. Before we begin, we’ll arrange either a Zoom or Skype call so that we can chat about your website and how you want it to look. I’ll create the sitemap (page/menu hierarchy etc) of the website for approval first, then I’ll design the home page and a subpage (or more upon request) for approval.

02. DEVELOPMENT

Once the site layout and design is approved, I’ll move forward with the designing of the entire site, pages, add all functionality and plug-ins. I’ll make sure your site looks great and functions nicely across all devices and web browsers before moving on to the final step. You’ll be able to track my progress from the development site link I’ll send you.

03. EDIT & REVISIONS

Once the site is ready,, you’ll be able to review each page and we can make detailed edits until the site is perfect. You’ll need to review each page to make sure that spelling, grammar, addresses and information are all correct before going live. Once you’re happy, I’ll have it transferred to your domain.

To get started, we need:

  • Your logo as a PNG (no more than 800 pixels long)
  • Hosting details with login/Cpanel, username and password
  • Your current website login details
  • Your social media details and log-in to Instagram
  • Content (filled in on the questionnaire that we will send).
  • Imagery (below)
  • Your style guide if you have one, or a list of fonts and colours that you like
  • All completed questionnaires five days ahead of your booked start date

WHAT IS 17 HATS

17 Hats is an awesome online platform for communication and project management. This IS where we will be sending you messages from, sharing files and keeping you up to date with how the design is coming along. This will stop content and images being lost in long email threads (because everyone loves email threads, right?).

IMAGE SIZES

Having your images correctly sized can have a massive impact on your website, too big and they will take too long to load, too small and they’ll look pixelated. The guide below will help ensure that they’re looking top notch on your new website.

We’ll send you a link to a Dropbox folder where you can upload your images. Once you get the link, you can set up separate folders for each page of your website. For example,: Home, Info, About, Contact and Galleries.

Feature Images 1920 x 1213 pixels Gallery images – 1200 x 800 pixels Square images 1200 x 1200 pixels all images need to be 72 dpi and less than 250kb

IT’S GOOD TO TALK!

I find that the best way to connect with my clients is via Zoom (like Skype).  This allows for a face to face meeting without the need to be in the room!  I find this is the best way to better understand what a client has in mind and it’s also great for screen sharing after your website is finished, to show you how to keep your new website up to date.

WHAT IF I NEED HELP WITH MY COPY?
We offer copywriting services, from a killer homepage or an ‘about you’ page to the complete website, if you would like more details please get in touch.

I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO RESIZE MY IMAGES, CAN YOU DO IT?
We do not want you to struggle with any aspect of your new website, so if sizing images is not your thing then let us know and we will happily quote you for image resizing.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT THE DESIGN?
Prior to starting your website, we will have a Zoom 1:1 and also we have you fill in a ‘New Website” questionnaire, so we are confident that we are all on the same page when it comes to your new website and once the homepage is complete, we will send over a link so you can see it and if need be we can make any changes to the design before we go too far. If however we get to the end and you then decide you do not like it, we are happy to make changes, but there would be an extra charge.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DECIDE WE WANT MORE PAGES?
That’s not a problem, your original quote will have the price of extra pages so just let us know what additional pages you need and we can add those to the final invoice.

DO YOU OFFER SEO SET UP?
Yes, we have a team member who specialises in SEO, if you would like to find out more then let us know.

IT’S A WRAP!

Once you are happy with your new website and the site is ready to go live, all unnecessary plugins, pages, images and backend files will be removed and your new website will be transferred to your domain. Once live, it may take between 24-48 hours for the new site to pull through on some devices. Some computers will need to be refreshed in order to see the new site, however, most computers will see the new site immediately.

Your website logins and all credentials will be sent to you via 17 Hats or secure email, ensuring security of your passwords. Even though your logins and passwords will be saved by me locally, PLEASE SAVE ALL LOGINS FOR YOUR RECORDS AS WELL. We can’t reiterate that enough. Once we’re finished, you’ll receive a link to my Moving Forward page where you’ll receive tips and tricks on what to do with your new website and also information on our Maintenance/Security Plan, which I highly recommend for all my clients. It’s cracking.
